Having been unexperienced in any youth training, Cho Kyu-seong is now the mainstay of South Korea U23 in the AFC U23 2020 Championship. Fans also expect him to be Korean big football star in the future.

Starting from high school football but Cho Kyu-seong is making great strides on the road to professional play thanks to his talent as well as untired efforts.

In an interview with Naver, Cho Kyu-seong revealed that he had no intention of becoming a professional player in the past. The 21-year-old once considered football a passion. After graduating from high school, Cho continued to study at Kwangju University. Here, he was really intestered in professional football.

After years of playing football for an amateur team in his hometown Ansan, Cho Kyu-seong was easily selected into the Kwangju University student soccer team. He joined this team during the 2017-2018 season. It is the coaches at Kwangju University that motivated Gue-sung to advance to professional play later.

In 2018, after receiving a bachelor's degree from Kwangju University, Cho Kyu-seong officially followed the path of professional football. His first team was Anyang FC, the club playing in the K League 2.

Before shining as a striker, Cho Kyu-seong was a defensive midfielder while playing for Kwangjy University's team. The moment that this team appointed coach Lee Seung-won was probably the turning point in Gue-sung's later career.

As soon as coach Lee took over the team, he asked Gue-sung to play as an attacking midfielder, then the striker. With a height of 1.85 m plus a thick body, Gue-sung quickly adapted to the team's target striker position.

“Since the winter training session, coach Lee has constantly let me play as a striker. I wasn't used to it at first, but gradually I got used to play up front. Coach Lee discovered and exploited my potential. I have to thank him very much”, Gue-sung said.

Cho Kyu-seong is the mainstay of Anyang FC at the age of 21. He made a strong impression in the first professional competition season. After 33 appearances, the striker born in 1998 scoring 14 goals plus 4 assists for Anyang FC.

This impressive performance helped Gue-sung be noticed by the Korean U23 coach Kim Hak Bum. He was called up to the U23 team to compete in the AFC U23 Championship 2020 in Thailand. This is also the first time Gue-sung has been summoned to the young national level of South Korea football. Not letting coach Kim Hak Bum down, Gue-sung left impressions after only two matches in the group stage.

In the match against the direct opponent Iran U23 on January 12th, Gue-sung scored a beautiful goal, contributing to the 2-1 victory of the Korean U23, thereby helping his team officially enter the quarterfinals.

Furthermore, many big teams in the K.League is now interested in signing Gue-sung, including the K League current champions Jeonbuk Hyundai Motor.

On January 6th, Jeonbuk Hyundai announced the successful signing of the 21-year-old striker. This is another big step for Cho Kyu-seong. Jeonbuk Hyundai can be a 'stairway' for the striker born in 1998 to develop his own career.
