Qatar head to 2020 Copa America following the AFC U23's disappointment

After being eliminated from the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, coach Felix Sanchez of Qatar U23 and the national team will head towards the upcoming campaigns, including the 2020 Copa America.

Contrary to success at the national level with the first-ever Asian Cup glory in 2019, coach Felix Sanchez and Qatar U23 were eliminated from the 2020 AFC U23 Championship group stage. The West Asian team finished third in Group B without any victory.

Failing to enter the quarters means losing tickets to the Olympic Tokyo 2020 men's football, coach Felix Sanchez said: "In the upcoming period, we will participate in many tournaments, like Copa America this summer. There will be a lot of first-team players in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which has been our number one goal in recent years".

Coach Felix Sanchez also encouraged the Qatar U23 players after the defeat. He stated that despite being eliminated, his players still deserve to be congratulated.

In the crucial match against Japan U23, despite playing with more people in the entire second half, Qatar U23 had found it difficult to get a point and was officially out of the tournament from the group stage. This is a very disappointing result for Qatar U23, the team that brought this tournament up to 8 national players who won the Asian Cup 1 year ago.

Felix Sanchez's Qatar team will attend the Copa America 2020 as a guest. Copa America 2020 will take place in Colombia and Argentina from June 12th to July 12th, 2020.
