IRONY!!! Referee Ahmed Al-Kaf closed his Instagram page after punishing the host

Omani referee Ahmed Al-Kaf had to switch his Instagram profile from public to private after being bombarded by the Thailand fans.

Thailand U23 gave up their Olympics dream after a 1-0 loss against Saudi Arabia U23 in an action-packed match at the AFC U23 Championship 2020 quarter-final.

At the 73rd minute, striker Abdullah Al-Hamdan dribbled through Thailand’s defense. In an attempt to stop the offensive player, Sorawit Panthong brought down the player, and the ref indicated a free kick right outside of the box. But then soon after, with the assistance of VAR, he changed his decision and pointed to the spot.

With a fierce strike that bounced off the bar and went into the net, Al-Hamdan registered his first goal of the tournament. That crucial goal sent Saudi Arabia U23 to the semi-final and sent Thailand U23 back home after much expectation.

That penalty was controversial, and the angry Thailand fans were having none of it. They claimed that the Omani referee was helping the Middle East nation throughout the match, with decisions that were in favor of Saudi Arabia U23, even the incident leading to the penalty.

The fans quickly found out the referee Ahmed Al-Kaf’s Instagram page. They left furious comments and assaults to the ref, which eventually he had to switch his profile to private. This loss will last a long time in the Thailand fans’ hearts, and the pitiful referee had to be the victim.
