'Thai Messi' Chanathip made SURPISED comparison between Thai & Japanese players

'Thai Messi' Chanathip made SURPISED comparison between Thai & Japanese players

Before the 2020 AFC U23 Championship at home, Chanathip Songkrasin voiced encouragement to Thai junior players.

In a recent activity, midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin spent a lot of time interacting with fans. This is Chanathip's break before the new season, thus he often has outside activities in his home town.

"To be honest, I didn't perform well in 2019. You know, I finished with Consadole Sapporo in 4th place in the 2018 season (the historical record of this club in J-League 1). I think I was affected by injuries last season. I will be determined to get back to the top", said the Thailand midfielder.

Thai football is about to enter an important campaign, the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, a tournament that War Elephants hope for a chance to attend the Tokyo Olympic Games. Chanathip has spoken about the strength of the Thailand U23.

"I watched Thailand U22 play at SEA Games 30th. The young players showed a great personal technical background, even better than the Japanese players. However, they are still immature, lack of battle experience and they still have to learn a lot", Chanathip Songkrasin made a comparison.

"The SEA Games campaign is a useful lesson for young players. Coach Akira Nishino will certainly have enough time to be well prepared before entering the 2020 AFC U23 Championship. I believe Thailand U23 can win good results in this tournament".

"Look at the mirror of Theerathon Bunmathan. He just won the historic title in J-League 1. Nobody believes that a Thai player has that honor once in his life. I hope that the generations of Thai players from now on will always dare to dream to improve the national football", he concluded.

As planned, coach Nishino will publish a list of 30 Thai U23 players preparing for the 2020 AFC U23 Championship on December 23rd. The preliminary list of "War Elephants" will be based on the key players who have just attended the SEA Games 2019 in the Philippines and has the addition of new elements.
