"Evil of Vietnam team" appear on the list of referees at the AFC U23 Championship

62 match officials were chosen for the AFC U23 Championship held in Thailand. Among those names, there was also the Chinese referee Fu Ming.

Match officials appointed for the upcoming 2020 AFC U23 Championship were divided into three groups: referee, assistant referees, and support assistant referees.

In every game, each referee will be supported by two assistant referees, plus the support from the VAR system. Consequently, some referees will play many roles in the tournament, including the VAR referee and VAR assistant.

The referees chosen were considered the best ones in Asia at the moment. Interestingly, the Chinese referee Fu Ming was one of them. However, Vietnamese supporters would not be interested in the appearance of Fu Ming.

They called him "The evil of Vietnam team" because of some controversial matches in the past.

When the Vietnam team faced Indonesia in the second-leg of semi-finals at the 2016 AFF Championship, he sent off Vietnamese goalkeeper Tran Nguyen Manh after an incident between him and an Indonesian player.

Consequently, Vietnam had to play the remaining time with defender Que Ngoc Hai as a goalkeeper. Eventually, Vietnam lost the game. On the other hand, Vietnam had no referees working at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

It showed a decrease in the quality of Vietnamese referees, while AFC called some referees from other Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
