DIRTY PLAY? Tran Dinh Trong, Park Hang Seo, and the ugly face of Vietnam U23 team

From the runners-up of the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, the Vietnam team was eliminated at the group stage of the 2020 event. Moreover, they also showed some dirty tricks on the pitch.

Vietnamese may not like it when people talk about the shortcomings of the national football team, however, they are true facts that they cannot deny.

The dirtiest player in Vietnam U23 squad is defender Tran Dinh Trong, who received the red card in the last match of the group stage of the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

Called as "foreign-player hunter" in the V.League, Tran Dinh Trong always uses every chance he has to wipe down his opponents. Consequently, there were many times that he was booked because of his dirty play, especially in international matches.

Tran Dinh Trong was a member of the Vietnam U20 team squad that competed in the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup, and he was also the first-choice defender. However, he disappointed Vietnamese fans by the poor performance in the second match against France U20.

A defeat for Vietnam U20 was something that could not resist, however, they lost with an ugly face when they ended the match with just ten players.

Dinh Trong received a red card after wiping down a French player, and the same thing happened to him 3 years later, when he played in the 2020 AFC U23 Championship. In the 2017 V.League, he had been banned 2 matches after kicking into Mac Hong Quan's chest.

In terms of coach Park Hang Seo, he was the type of coach who was ready to use tricks to pressure the referees. However, sometimes he pushed himself too much, making him be punished.

In the 30th SEA Games men's football event, he received a red card in the final match after repeatedly complaining despite the fact that his team lead by a 3-0 score.

A few days ago, he was mad in the match between Vietnam U23 and Jordan, throwing a ball that almost hit the assistant referee.
