Coach Park Hang Seo: 'Thankfully we are not in the same group with South Korea U23'

Coach Park Hang Seo is very pleased after knowing the results of the draw for the 2020 U23 AFC championship.

The draw for the 2020 U23 AFC championship took place in Thailand with very interesting results, U23 Vietnam, the U23 Asian Cup runner-up 2018 are in the same group with North Korea, Jordan and UAE.

Because of coaching work with the national team and U22, coach Park Hang Seo was not present at this ceremony, instead VFF Vice Chairman Tran Quoc Tuan. Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan is also currently in charge of the position of Head of AFC competition.

Speaking to the media after learning about the results of the ceremony, the Korean coach had very interesting sharing.

"I will only answer questions related to the results of the Asian U23 draw. Other issues I talked about a few days ago.

We are in the group with 4 teams: Jordan, North Korea and UAE, this tournament we are the No. 1 seed. Apart from Thailand as the host, I think the teams coming to the finals have the same level even though they are located in any group".

Coach Park Hang Seo: Thankfully we are not in the same group with South Korea U23

Before the draw, Mr. Park shared his desire not to be in the same group with Korea. And what he was worried about did not happen.

"Thankfully we don't meet South Korea U23. Anyway, it's my hometown, so I'm a little bit pressured. Not because I'm afraid but because Korean reporters will ask me a lot which makes me tired".

Talking about the overlaps in the 2020 U23 AFC championship, Mr. Park does not think that these are the fortunes that Vietnam U23 can expect.

"I don't believe in the sign of luck, if the lucky effort will come. It's now heading to the World Cup and SEA Games qualifiers later this year".

"Every tournament has pressure, the SEA Games team will be the main component. We will continue to add more individuals to strengthen the tournament next year," he added.

U23 Vietnam will start the 2020 U23 AFC championship from January 10th against the UAE, followed by January 13th against Jordan and January 16th against North Korea.
