Coach Akira Nishino reveals the plan to SPY opponents ahead AFC U23 championship's battles

Coach Akira Nishino will add many new faces to the Thailand U23 team to prepare for the 2020 AFC U23 championship, after stopping in the group stage of SEA Games 30th.

"The SEA Games are over, we cannot play as expected. I'm sorry everyone. In order for the team to improve, I will try to prepare better. From my position, I accept the responsibility when I do not know all about the players. I do not manage well. I apologize to the association and the sponsors", Nishino spoke during the afternoon meeting on December 13th.

"I want the players to have time off after the SEA Games. The worry is how to recover their physical state. In fact, we will have our first match in the 2020 AFC U23 championship on January 8th. So the players need to rest and will focus again on December 26th", he added.

On the afternoon of December 13th, coach Akira Nishino announced his plans with the Thai U23 team to prepare for the 2020 AFC U23 championship at home. The Japanese strategist said he would call in a few more players to improve the team's strength after SEA Games.

"I will call some more players because we still need improvement. After that, I will talk to the training team about spying on the opponent again. Perhaps we will focus on Bahrain - our opponent in the opening match", Mr. Nishino revealed.

"We are the home team so of course the cheers of the audience will be the motivation for the players to fulfill their potential. The matches in this tournament will be very different from the SEA Games, which is at the Asian level. The challenge is waiting for the team and this is an opportunity for us to prove our strength".

At SEA Games 30th, Thailand U22 participated with a force of 20 players under 22 years old, without the addition of two players over the age. The "War Elephants" failed to successfully defend the gold medal when they lost to Indonesia and drew Vietnam, thereby being eliminated from the group stage.

In the 2020 AFC U23 championship, Thailand U23 is in Group A with Iraq, Bahrain and Australia. Nishino's team will have an opening match against Bahrain at Rajamangala on January 8th, 2020.
