Calling up Premier League star, Thailand U23 aims for advancing to Olympics

Coach Akira Nishino named midfielder Benjamin Davis, who was playing for the English club Fulham, into the 23-man squad at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship.

Because of holding three citizenships from the United Kingdom, Thailand, and Singapore, midfielder Benjamin Davis can opt to play for various countries.

In the past, he used to be a member of the Singapore U16 and Singapore U19 team, and he was also called up to the senior team for the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

Luckily, he did not play in any of the matches, so far he could switch to another national football team in the future.

As a result, Davis chose to play for the Thailand U23 team at the moment because he did not want to waste his time serving the military service in Singapore.

Although he was currently the player of Fulham FC, he spent most of his time at the end of the year 2019 to train with the Thailand U23 team.

It seemed that he wanted to fight for a place in the squad that helped him compete at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship. Thailand also believed thanks to players like Davis, they can aim for advancing to the Olympics.

Besides Benjamin Davis, Thailand U23 currently has Marco Ballini, the Italian-born defender who was a member of the Cesena football academy. However, he was not called up to prepare for the AFC U23 Championship.
