Australia U23 confident to qualify for the Olympics

After advancing to the quarter-finals, Australia U23 team players said they were ready to fight for the knock-out stage.

Interestingly, it is the first time that the Australia team has advanced to the quarter-finals in the final tournament of the AFC U23 Championship since the 2013 event.

To prepare for the competition, coach Graham Arnold picked 23 among 50 young Australian players, so he is sure that it is the best possible team of Australia U23.

However, from his perspective, Australian players still need to train harder to fix the problems, especially defenders.

"To qualify for the Olympics, we must not make more mistakes. In the match against Bahrain U23, they did not create many chances, however, they managed to score a goal because taking advantage of our mistakes", says Arnold.

As the leading team of Group A, Australia U23 team will meet the second-place team in the quarter-finals, who will be likely Syria or Saudia Arabia. Those nations beat the Olympic host Japan to lead Group B, so Australia cannot overlook them.

Because of the fact that Japan was eliminated at the group stage, the Australia U23 team had to win at least the third place in the 2020 AFC U23 Championship to qualify for the 2020 Olympics men's football event.

Consequently, they have to be careful on the way to the knock-out stage.
