Asked about avoiding Vietnam in the quarter-finals, here is the answer of South Korean player

Speaking about the situation at the AFC U23 Championship, midfielder Kim Jin Kyu said that his team had many things to do at the group stage.

South Korea U23 was drawn in the death group at the 2020 AFC U23 Championship, when their opponents were the defending champion Uzbekistan, China, and Iran. After that, they would meet one of two leaders of Group D, which would be likely Vietnam U23.

As a result, many people predicted that South Korea U23 was considering avoiding Vietnam U23 at the quarter-finals. However, midfielder Kim Jin Kyu said he has never thought about that.

"We were in the death group with strong teams namely Uzbekistan, China, and Iran, so we can be eliminated soon if we do not play with our best", said Kim Jin Kyu. "Consequently, our top mission is not to avoid Vietnam or any competitors".

"Before thinking about the Vietnam U23 team, we need to study how to win against other opponents at the group stage. Only by doing that can we advance to the quarter-finals, which helps us step closer to our goal at the competition".

If South Korea U23 team advances to the semi-finals, they will win the ticket to qualify for the 2020 Olympics men's football event, which is their 9th consecutive time. So far they prepare well to do that, including calling up some players who are playing for European clubs.
