Aiming for conquering AFC U23 Championship, South Korea calls up Red Bull Salzburg star

To advance to the 2020 Olympic men's football event, South Korea U23 team called Hwang Hee Chan, the player who is playing for Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg.

In the past, Hwang Hee Chan used to take part in the AFC U23 Championship in 2016. At that time, he played alongside South Korean stars namely Kwon Chang Hoon, Ryu Seung Woo, Moon Chang Jin, and Yeon Min Yeon under the guidance of head coach Shin Tae Yong.

As a result, they achieved the runners-up place at that competition, qualifying for the 2016 Olympic men's football event. Although Hwang Hee Chan did not score any goal at that tournament, he was appraised as one of the most vital players in South Korean squad.

After that, Hwang Hee Chan took a place in South Korea team that regularly appeared at the starting lineup. Moreover, it also helped him gain a solid position in the Austrian team Red Bull Salzburg, which he joined in 2015.

In the 2019/20 season, Hwang Hee Chan was one of three key attackers namely Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino, who recently moved to Liverpool in the winter transfer window.

According to the 2019/20 Austrian Football Bundesliga regulations, the league temporarily had no match in January.

Consequently, South Korea U23 team could ask to call him up to the squad even though the AFC U23 Championship did not follow FIFA's schedule. They believed that Hwang Hee Chan could serve his best to the team.
