Thailand U19 failed to qualify for final tournament following the second consecutive loss

Thailand U19 has accepted the fact that they will not attend the 2020 AFC U19 Championship, due to the disappointing qualifying campaign.

Losing against Cambodia U19 in the third match, Thailand U19 must win over Malaysia U19 if they want to qualify for the final tournament. Because of that, from the beginning of the game, Thailand U19 possessed the game with a large number of short passes.

However, Thai players could not get through the defense system of Malaysia U19. Their opponent actively plays with the low formation, hence it was not easy for Thailand U19 to have any shots.

In the second half, Thailand U19 continued to attack more fiercely. Nevertheless, they still did not have any chance to score a goal. It became worse in the last minutes when Malaysia players started to launch counter-attacks. In 84th minute, Muhamad Umar Hakeem scored the opening goal for Malaysia U19, and it was also the only goal in the match. If Malaysia U19 was luckier, they would have had the second goal in the stoppage time.

Being eliminated at the AFC U19 Championship qualification is a very disappointing result for Thailand U19, especially when they lost against weaker teams such as Malaysia and Cambodia. As a result, the Football Association of Thailand immediately fired coach Issara Sritaro after the match.
