PSM Makassar wants the AFC to change fixture amid the wariness of the coronavirus pandemic

The Indonesian side PSM Makassar has handed their appeal to the AFC to ask for an alteration in the schedule of their match with Tampines Rovers in the AFC Cup owing to the concern about the coronavirus outbreak.

The fixture between PSM Makassar and Tampines Rovers in the first matchday of the AFC Cup’s group H is due to take place on February 12, 2020 at Jalan Besar Stadium of the Singapore side.

Nevertheless, given that Singapore is now the country with the second most people infected with the coronavirus among countries other than China – the source of the pandemic, the PSM Makassar’s executives saw that playing on Tampines Rovers’ home ground was too much of a risk.

Their CEO, Munafri Arifuddin, along with PSSI’s Secretary General Ratu Tisha, has filed the request to reconsider the situation and make changes to the AFC.

Should the AFC approve PSM Makassar’s demand, the highest organisation of Asian football can push back the match the same way as they did to the matches with the participation of Chinese clubs at the AFC Champions League, which was postponed up to a month compare to the original schedule.

Otherwise, the AFC can also swap the host of the two matches between PSM Makassar and Tampines Rovers in the group stage, designating the home advantage to the Indonesian side in their first encounter on February 12, given that Indonesia has been safe from the coronavirus with zero infected case until now.

Although having sent their appeal to the AFC, PSM Makassar’s CEO still wanted the support from the Indonesian government by enacting strict laws that temporarily ban its citizen to Singapore rather than the current soft advice not to go The Lion City.

Last season, PSM Makassar reached the AFC Cup’s zone semi-final and surely they would want nothing less in the 2020 season. The compromising factors like the coronavirus outburst are definitely what they would like to remove from the equation on their way to achieve their season goals.
