Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao’s naturalized superstars Ricardo Goulart and Tyias Browning may miss the AFC Champions League 2020’s first stage.

Gao Late and Jiang Guangtai, formerly known as Ricardo Goulart (born in Brazil) and Tyias Browning (born in England) respectively, has become Chinese citizen since 2019.

Nevertheless, the registering process for these naturalized stars for AFC Champions League 2020 has not been officially acknowledged by FIFA. As a result, Gao Late and Jiang Guangtai can only return to Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao’s line-up in the second stage of the tournament at the soonest.

Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao have been one of the most spending clubs in China with numerous million-dollar signing the likes of Anderson Talisca or the renowned former Brazillian international Paulinho.

The 8-time Chinese Super League champions were one of the first clubs in China to naturalize foreign players with the earning Chinese citizenship for Brazillian-born Ricardo Goulart (Gao Late), Elkesen (Ai Kesen) and England-born Tyias Browning in order to fulfill their ambitious goals.

On the other hand, the player naturalizing trend in Chinese football has slowed down due to the enactment of the new salary cap regulation. The maximum annual salary for a footballer in China has been restricted to $3.3 million (compare to the reported $27 million of Shanghai SIPG's Oscar).
