Coach Miguel Rodrigo urges Vietnamese players to focus on defeating Malaysia

Speaking after the draw with Indonesia in the second match of Group B of the 2019 AFF Futsal Championship, Vietnam coach Miguel Rodrigo called on the players to do their best in the last match against Malaysia.

After a convincing victory against a strong Australian opponent in the opening match of the 2019 AFF Futsal Championship, Vietnam was full of confidence when confronting Indonesia in the second match. The team of coach Miguel Rodrigo played completely overwhelmed against Indonesia. However, until the referee blew out the final whistle, no goals were scored and the two teams left the field with a score of 0-0!

In the match that took place a few hours later, Australia defeated Malaysia with a score of 6-4 to win three important points. Thus, except for Malaysia, which was eliminated after losing two matches, the opportunity to reach the semi-finals is divided equally among Vietnam, Indonesia and Australia.

Speaking at a press conference after the match with Indonesia, coach Miguel Rodrigo said: “In terms of the performance of the two teams, I think Vietnam has played better. When we look at the course of the match, we can see that the players on both teams are quite tired".

“This is understandable because yesterday, Indonesia had a difficult game against Malaysia and we had a very challenging game for Australia. So the result is fair".

In particular, the Spanish strategist forced the Vietnamese players to focus as much as they could against Malaysia in the final round to get a good result: “The result of Vietnam against Malaysia is not so good recently. I asked my players to calm down. I told them that if they want to win and have a victory against Malaysia, tomorrow is the most obvious opportunity to do that".

“Play, don't be afraid! Stay focused, try to achieve goals! Hopefully, they will play well to bring happiness to everyone, just like everyone showed us today".

The match between Vietnam and Malaysia will take place at 20:00 on October 23rd (GMT+8).
