2019 AFF Futsal Championship: Vietnam fell to the death table after the re-draw

The change of the AFC format makes Vietnam Futsal team fall into the death table at the 2019 AFF Futsal Championship.

2019 AFF Futsal Championship will take place from October 21-27 and Vietnam will host the tournament this time. As a host, futsal Vietnam is facing a great opportunity to win a high position and win tickets to the Asian tournament.

In early 2019, the Southeast Asian Football Federation held a draw and divided the table for 8 participating teams. Table A includes homeowners of Vietnam, Thailand, Timor Leste and Cambodia. Meanwhile, Group B includes: Malaysia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Australia. According to the rules of the tournament, the four teams that reach the semi-finals will win the right to attend the 2020 Asian Futsal Cup.

However, the Asian Football Federation did not accept the decision of the AFF lottery. Accordingly, the AFC requires AFF to reload and arrange seed groups based on the results in the latest Asian Games. In addition, AFC also cut the participation rate of Southeast Asia from 4 to 3.

The results of the draw will determine Table A including Thailand, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Cambodia. While, Vietnam futsal home team fell into Table B - 'death' with Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia.

Despite playing on home turf, Group B is still a huge challenge for Vietnamese futsal team. Curently Australian Futsal is the top team in Asia, while Malaysia and Indonesia consistently beat Vietnam in recent tournaments.
