Canelo Alvarez can face Sergey Kovalev on a new weight

The champion of the middleweight Canelo Alvarez has shown his intention to dominate the new weight classes starting with Light Heavyweight.

Canelo Alvarez currently holds the championship title in three post-winning titles, Rocky Fielding and WBA (regular) Super-Middleweight. On May 4, he also won the IBF Middleweight title with a victory over Daniel Jacobs. "Inherited," Canelo was trying to register on even bigger scales.

There are many opinions that the Mexican champion will face the former 3rd Gennady Golovkin champion in September this year. However, Alvarez had a more specific plan, and Alvarez planned to win WBA (super) Super-Middleweight Callum Smith or WBO Light Heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev according to The Athletic newspaper.

Not long after that, the Sport Illustrated newspaper also announced that although the contract had not been drafted, Alvarez was aiming for the match against Kovalev.

Sergey Kovalev (33-3-1, 28 KO) is a very interesting option for Canelo Alvarez. The 36-year-old Russian puncher was one of the best heavyweight players in Light Heaveyweight, but in terms of fitness, he was only 6cm taller than Alvarez (Kovalev was 182cm tall), which helped confront Kovalev "breathless more "for Mexican punchers.

Another reason is that Kovalev is at the age of 36, the age at which many punchers think he has reached the peak of his career. If comparing Kovalev and Callum Smith, 192cm tall and 29 years old, Kovalev is a safer option.

Although it was still not certain, Canelo had surprised the audience before. He used to fight with Amir Khan and Rocky Fielding last year, two opponents that no one thought he would choose. DAZN is still looking forward to a big event for Canelo in September, but with DAZN not signing up with too many good Middleweight players, it is possible for Canelo to leave the weight class.
