The 41-year-old former basketball player, his daughter, and the other seven passengers passed away in an accident.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Maria Onore Bryant were among nine people that were killed in a helicopter crash.

The accident also caused a slight fire in the region. Initially, the officials said that there were just five people that were killed in the accident, however, they soon updated the information.

At 41, Kobe Bryant was one of the greatest basketball players in the NBA's history, dedicating his entire career to Los Angeles Lakers. In his 20-year post, Bryant claimed five NBA championship titles with Lakers.

Before that, he used to be the youngest player in the competition when he played the first game for his club at 18 years, 2 months, and 11 days. At the international level, he also won two Olympics titles as a member of the USA basketball team.

Bryant retired his professional career in 2016, scoring 60 points in the last game. After hearing about the accident, millions of people paid tribute to him and his daughter.

The Manchester United player Jesse Lingard said: "A true legend and icon to millions around the globe, you were bigger than your sport and inspired so many including me", while the Australian Open defending champion Novak Djokovic admitted that Kobe was a great mentor and a friend to him.
