Philippines draws the first friendly match in preparation for 2019 FIBA World Cup

Coach Yeng Guiao and his club Mighty Sports were inconclusive in the match at Meralco Stadium.

The Philippines drew the Mighty Sports club with a lot of foreign soldiers with the score 85-85 in the match that took place at the Meralco Gymnasium in Pasig City. This is Gilas Pilipinas' first training match during the preparation for FIBA World Cup 2019.

Yeng Guiao and his players fell into chase for most of the time, at one point they were led by the opponent with a 2-digit difference. However, Gilas made an impressive match in the third half to lead back 60-59 before the last 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Mighty Sports launched the strongest squad and easily regained the initiative. Aaron Black and Michael Williams took long-range throws to help the team lead the national team 6 points when the game was only 60 seconds long.

However, the Philippines did not give up, two successive pitches of Marcio Lassiter and CJ Perez helped Master Yeng Guiao balance 85-85. Zachary Moore's throwing of the unsuccessful buzzer beater helped Gilas Pilipinas avoid defeat in the first friendly match.

“The players played very hard and I'm happy with the result. This is a quality opponent and the result will be the driving force for the whole team to advance. ” Coach Guiao satisfied. He is expected to announce a shortlist of 15 players preparing for FIBA World Cup 2019 this weekend.
